The Engineering Department is responsible for planning, designing, and managing projects and programs that support MRGCD’s mission and water management goals.
The team provides engineering services and technical support for infrastructure improvements, water delivery operations, and regulatory compliance and provides support to all four Division works in maintenance activities and in-house construction projects to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of MRGCD’s system.
Key Responsibilities and Services
- Project Planning & Design: Develop and design infrastructure projects that support the District.
- Construction Management: Oversee and manage construction projects from start to finish.
- Maintenance & In-House Construction: Support all four (4) Division works in maintenance activities and in-house construction projects.
- Plan Review Support: Provide technical review and coordination for development projects.
- Technical Support: Provide engineering support to Divisions, staff, and customers.
- Water Management: Support the efficient, safe, and sustainable delivery of water.

Engineering Projects

Corrales Siphon Replacement Project
Replacement of old wood stave with a new pipeline using modern trenchless technology. This improvement enhances the reliability and efficiency of water conveyance to the west side of Corrales while minimizing surface disturbance and maintaining continuity of district operations.

Feeder 3 Transmission Line Project
Development of a new pump station and transmission line at the Feeder No. 3 canal to improve operational flexibility within the Riverside Drain system. This project allows available water supply to be redirected into Feeder 3, enhancing distribution efficiency and supporting more reliable delivery to irrigators.

Socorro Main Canal Channel lining
Enhancements to the Socorro Main Canal included new concrete lining, concrete canvas applications, and other channel stabilization improvements. The project also upgraded turnouts, weirs, and gates to improve flow control, reduce water loss, and strengthen long‑term system performance.

Low Flow Conveyance Channel
This project improves conveyance and channel capacity through targeted maintenance activities along the Low Flow Conveyance Channel. Work includes dredging, vegetation removal, and mowing to restore flow efficiency, enhance hydraulic performance, and support reliable system operations.
