The Belen Division is the largest division of the MRGCD. It serves irrigated acreage in Valencia and northern Socorro Counties. It is largely rural, but encompasses the cities of Belen and Los Lunas, and the villages of Peralta and Bosque Farms. The Division also serves Isleta Pueblo.
The Belen Division receives water diverted from the Rio Grande by the Isleta Diversion dam. Significant flow also enters the west side of the Division directly from the Albuquerque Division. The dam, being a low head diversion structure, incorporates canal intakes along both banks, and a series of 30 radial gates to control head behind the structure.
The Division operates and maintains about 505 miles of ditch which provide irrigation for the benefit of about 30,100 acres and is staffed by 60 employees.
