The Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District (MRGCD) is installing security cameras at select locations to improve public safety, protect District facilities and provide timely information to first responders and law enforcement during emergencies.
These cameras are being placed in areas where MRGCD has experienced recurring issues such as illegal dumping, trespassing, vandalism of gates and other facilities, and human-caused fires.
The cameras are not intended to monitor residents or neighboring private property. Each camera will be positioned with a limited field of view focused on MRGCD facilities and surrounding areas, including access gates, ditches and drains, levee roads, and portions of the bosque. Where private property may fall within the camera's view, measures will be taken to protect the privacy of adjacent property owners, including appropriate camera positioning and image masking or blurring.
MRGCD's goal is to use this technology responsibly to improve emergency response, discourage illegal activity, and help protect the bosque, District infrastructure and surrounding communities.
